Okay, here is something fun for you to do! Add all the numbers from 1 to 200 together in your head. Set a timer for 30 seconds and see what you come up with! What did you get? How many of you looked at the problem and thought, "I'm not even going to try?" or "is this even possible?" I will tell you that it is indeed possible, and it has a lot to do with how we arrange the data that is to be processed into information. Look at the following line up and see if you can identify any patterns between the way the 6 numbers are arranged (hint: patterns of addition) 1+2+3 198+199+200 We can: 1+200= 201 2+199= 201 3+198= 201 Following this pattern, we see that each number from 1 to 200 will be paired with another which tells us that there are 100 addition pairs that each total 201. We know that we now have 100 groups of 201 and we can simply do the following: 100X201 100X201=20,100 What we have done to manage this problem is 1. break it down 2. find pattern (s) 3. put it all together in an algorithm
